Denim & Supply may be a departure from the Anglo-American style of Ralph Lauren's other brands, but this jacket ($124.99; available here) certainly falls into Lauren's affinity for all things vintage.
The jacket is clearly inspired by an American military tunic from the period between the Spanish-American War and World War I.
Admit it. It's a pretty cool jacket. The real question, however, is whether you would wear it.
The epaulettes slide on and off, so that shouldn't be an issue. The real problem is finding the right outfit.
Denim jeans with suede desert boots would go well with this jacket, especially for those who want a travel jacket. Of course, dark khaki or brown chinos would pair well, especially if you wanted that whole safari-inspired look.
The one problem this correspondent encountered with the jacket was it fit.
It only comes in small, medium, large and extra-large, which will surely present a challenge for those who fall between off-the-rack sizing. The shoulders also have an unusual amount of padding for a casual jacket, which again could be an issue.
If it fits and you can afford a play jacket then what the heck. At the very minimum, it will probably garner you a few comments from friends.
