Christmas Buying Guide: Club Monaco's must-have sport jacket

Editor's note — The following is the first installment in PinstripesandTweed.com's 2013 Christmas Buying Guide.

Keep an eye on Club Monaco.

Between its recent flagship opening in New York and an incredible collection of tailored clothing from lead menswear designer Aaron Levine, Club Monaco is giving discerning gentlemen a lot to drool over. This is especially the case when you live in Michigan and your only physical exposure to the brand is an absurdly small men’s section in the rear of a single store located in an out-of-the-way corner of a so-so mall in a bedroom community.

One such thing is the must-have houndstooth tweed sport jacket pictured below.

This jacket is amazingly beautiful. Seriously.

The American-made jacket has the hook vent and three-roll-two lapel required of high-prep with a fit that is more contemporary without being overly faddy. Only one thing could have made this even better: No flaps on the patch pockets.

It’s also a little unusual — given that everyone is doing it these days — for Club Monaco not to disclose the provenance of this beautiful houndstooth tweed.

Notwithstanding, the jacket, at $575, is an exceptional value that’s even better if you qualify for Club Monaco’s student discount of 20 percent.
