What to wear: Two shirts you need

T.M. Lewin has the two shirts that every gentleman needs in his closet.

For casual wear, especially with a tweed sport jacket, a shirt with a classic pattern is a must, especially if one doesn't plan on wearing a necktie.

This slim-fit blue check shirt ($48; available here) comes with button cuffs, which makes it perfect for Americans, who, unlike their British cousins, tend to eschew French cuffs for everyday wear.

For a more refined look, go with the solid white shirt pictured above ($64; available here).

Though it doesn't have French cuffs, the curved cutaway collar elevates it beyond everyday wear. A full Windsor knot is always appropriate, but a slimmer necktie with a slightly twisted four-in-a-hand knotthink Sid Mashburn or Gianni Agnelli — would be quite dashing.
