Uniqlo has the perfect transitional sweater

A sweater in August? To some it may sound crazy, but to others it is a sartorial reality.

Here in Michigan, it isn’t unusual to have extended periods of daytime temperatures above 75 degrees through September, but the evening can be chilly — especially by the end of the month, when Friday evenings are taken over by high school football games.

During the transition from summer to early fall, discerning gentlemen should consider the lightweight merino wool sweater from Uniqlo, the Japanese fast-fashion brand renown for stylish clothing of decent quality and affordable prices.

Priced at $39.90 (this correspondent purchased it last week in London for under £20, or approximately $28, based on exchange rates at the time of writing), the sweater is made from genuine 100 percent merino wool and comes in an incredible range of 16 colors.

It’s perfect for wearing with just about everything — chino pants on a Saturday morning trip to the coffeehouse or farmers’ market, denim jeans to the upcoming Friday evening football game, or with slacks, open-collared shirt and loafers for a casual day in the air-conditioned office.
