Summer 2013, Pure Michigan-style

The following gents were spotted earlier this month at the Les Cheneaux Islands Antique Wooden Boat Show — one of the country's largest — in the quaint hamlet of Hessel in Michigan's incredible Upper Peninsula.

If Senator Ted Kennedy were still alive then the fellow pictured above could make a living as his look-alike.

This is a pretty classic look for a boater, though the shorts can be difficult for many gentlemen of a certain age to pull off. Nevertheless, he manages to get this look right, as opposed to some of those in the background.

You can't get more traditional, as opposed to high-prep, than this look. A lightweight transitional sweater or a navy unstructured blazer in cotton or linen would be a nice addition to an otherwise age-appropriate look.

He is put together much better than many of the other attendees. This is a youthful look, though the solid white shirt, as PinstripesandTweed.com has previously advised, is too plain. A better choice would be a light pink or even a Gingham check shirt.
