S. Cohen's fall collection: Contemporary takes on classic style

Editor's note — This is part of a continuing Pinstripes and Tweed series on custom clothing

S. Cohen is out with a lookbook for its autumn collection.

Not only is S. Cohen made in Montreal — a huge plus over competitors, whose offerings are made in Oriental factories — but its Custom Cuts program offers an incredible range of made-to-measure options that are almost unheard of at this price point.

The value for money of S. Cohen’s made-to-measure is so incredible that one really doesn’t need to settle for an off-the-peg suit or sport jacket.

Among’s autumn favorites is the olive-ish tweed, which is woven for S. Cohen by the Italian mill Lanificio di Pray.

Shown in the lookbook as a sport jacket (pictured above), a pair of matching pants could easily be ordered through Custom Cuts. This would be the best of both worlds — the formality of a suit and the sartorial flexibility of a sport jacket that pairs with everything from denim and moleskin jeans to corduroy or wool pants.

Whether you go for a sport jacket or a suit, be sure to specify side vents, a ticket pocket, surgeon’s cuffs and a fancy lining if ordering through Custom Cuts.

Another choice is a sport jacket made from a beautiful sky blue check (pictured below). The 100% percent wool cloth comes from Ermenegildo Zegna, another iconic Italian brand.

As with the olive tweed, this is a very flexible and can span the entire spectrum from very relaxed and casual (elbow patches or patch pockets would be nice) to refined and elegant when worn with a regimental or motif necktie.
