As with early autumn, spring — specifically the period between Easter Sunday and Memorial Day weekend — is a great season for the discerning gentleman.
Unlike the warm months of summer or the coldest months of winter, when weather considerations come first, the mildness of this time of the year allows for the sartorialist to wear just about whatever he wants.
A free spirit must, however, get the basics right before experimenting with such fineries as seersucker or Oxford cloth suits.
Among the warm weather basics in every gentleman’s closet are the following: A seasonally appropriate blazer — think linen, chino pants (be sure to have a good tailor remove the belt loops and use leftover cloth from hemming to make side-tab adjusters), loafers, a well-fitting shirt and a pocket square that can do functional duty should the allergies kick in.
